What If Humanoids Worked In Pr?

You would be hard pushed to meet someone nowadays who isn’t on Facebook, tweeting or debating whether or not to use a filter on Instagram. It’s fair to say we have embraced social media and the brave new world of technology but what about artificial intelligence (AI) and robots?

One PR campaign that caught our attention this week at Siren was for the launch of Sky Atlantic’s new science fiction show, Westworld. Starring veterans of the acting elite including Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris to name but two, the series is set in a futuristic theme park. Guests are able to live out their wildest fantasies until the robots take over and suddenly it is them in control. A realistic portrayal of the future? Who knows?

The PR activity to support the launch was visually impactful and gave a thought-provoking insight into the real attitude towards what could be the next wave of a tech-based world. An army of 20 ‘humanoids’ appeared in Waterloo, on the Millennium Bridge and Westminster to profile the show’s launch – great content for social media and photo desks, tick. This was coupled with a survey which revealed that 41 per cent of Brits think that humanoids could destroy humanity. Press release giving good fodder for chat in the local, tick.

All in all a well-executed campaign that worked across a range of communications channels. It almost begs the question if humanoids were PRs, what creatives and strategies would they come up with?
