Social Media Round Up – Which Burger Emoji Is Correct And Worry Free Whatsapp
FAT FREE? GLUTEN FREE? NO! PHOTO FREE._
We had a chuckle this week at the revelation that a “no photos” sign has been erected at the three Michelin starred “Waterside Inn” in Bray. World class chef, Michel Roux (Sr) has banned visitors from snapping their food and uploading it to Instagram.
We were torn in the office; some of us are all for putting pictures of incredible meals up on our timelines, others are a little more puritanical in our loathing of spending five minutes waiting for everyone to finish primping their dinner to photogenic perfection before tucking in (even if we sometimes succumb to snap-happy temptation too).
The chef explained that diners can’t capture the flavour of a dish in a photo (although no doubt the bods at Google are working on it) and for that reason, cameras are off the menu.
Research earlier in the year exposed a generational difference between more socially-savvy millennials and their seniors. The visual appearance of a meal plays a much more important role for 18-34 year olds, with a higher level of food being sent to landfill in the pursuit of a good photo.
WHICH BURGER EMOJI IS CORRECT? LETTUCE DECIDE!_
It’s the massive question in emoji-land this week: what is the correct order for your burger filling? Apple’s cheeseburger emoji has the lettuce below the burger and the cheese on top, whereas, Android’s travesty of an emoji places the lettuce on top of the burger with the cheese underneath. Well as you can imagine, with the threat of nuclear proliferation and sexual indiscretions at the heights of government and industry, the correct placing of emoji burger fillings dominated the internet earlier this week.
Google has said that they will re-position the lettuce in their emoji if the public can agree where it should sit. There seems to be a general consensus that the cheese should sit above the burger giving it plenty of heat to melt. However the jury is still out over where the lettuce should sit. These are important issues people!
WORRY FREE WHATSAPP_
Before we all set off for the weekend, the latest news from WhatsApp could save you a lot of worry: you can now delete messages. Hallelujah!
The update is being rolled out to users gradually. A few things to be aware of before you go out deliberately sending messages you wish to delete… You won’t receive confirmation of the deletion and the feature will only work if everyone in the conversation has the latest version of WhatsApp. Don’t forget though, if the message is read before you hit delete, then it’s too late.
NASA’S SOUNDTRACK TO HALLOWEEN_
Those who celebrated one of the spookiest nights of the year, would have been thrilled that the most fitting playlist ever to have been created for Halloween, was released on Soundcloud just in time All Hallows Eve, by none other than NASA.
Looking to get involved in the celebrations, NASA released a playlist featuring the universe’s most eerie sounds including ‘howling planets’ and ‘whistling helium’.
The playlist almost immediately reached over 5 million plays as NASA created this year’s most authentic soundtrack. The tracks include sounds that have been captured over many missions that NASA has executed. NASA explains: ‘Soaring to the depths of our universe, gallant spacecraft roam the cosmos, snapping images of celestial wonders. Some spacecraft have instruments capable of capturing radio emissions. When scientists convert these to sound waves, the results are eerie to hear.’
Whilst spooky, the sounds are nonetheless fascinating and we are sure many will have track five, ‘Lightning on Jupiter’ playing on repeat.
