Social Media Round Up – Twitter Data And More Instagram Tips
Whilst the political parties are in full swing this week launching their manifestos one pledge which caught our social media eye was from Theresa May. The PM announced that Facebook users will have the right to delete any information, photos and messages that they published before turning 18. The pledge has been prompted by concerns that comments and posts made by teenagers may cause long term damaging effects on their career opportunities. This week, Twitter made some changes to its privacy policy and the social giant will now be able to collect browsing data from users outside of the website and app. In a move to help personalise adverts on the platform, Twitter can now track its users activity on the wider web by recording data from websites they visit that have embedded timelines or tweet buttons. Other updates in the new privacy policy include a feature within the settings called ‘your Twitter data’ which allows users to see all of the data the social giant has stored on them and who can see it. It’ll be interesting to see what Twitter thinks it knows about you. We’ve become all too used to the ‘NEW’ alert appearing at the top of our Instagram app since the introduction of Stories last summer. With each and every update the function has become more and more like a carbon copy of Snapchat. This week the final piece to the puzzle appeared when Instagram introduced its own version of the fun face filters that Snapchat is famous for. With bunny ears and nose, and shiny gold crowns within the options to play with, the resemblance to Snapchat’s classic puppy face and flower crowns is uncanny. Except… they’re not quite as good. There’s some gloss missing from the simpler Instagram imitation which we can’t help but think they should have worked on before launching. We’re sure they’ll improve and time will tell if it’s a nail in the Snapchat coffin. Last week we told you the best times to get the perfect Instagram shot, +and this week we have some other top tips to share. An article in the June edition of Cosmopolitan magazine revealed that the light is more flattering in warmer climates (when the sun is higher and closer to the earth) whereas in colder climates the light can leave you looking a little washed out. It all sounds very complicated but luckily there are apps such as Morecast which predict light and sun intensity to help you get the best pictures. It’s also the perfect excuse to jet off somewhere hot and sunny!TERESA MAY AND FACEBOOK…_
Beyond Facebook, the Tory party is also planning to put in place regulations to target and fine the wider social media industry if it fails in its duty to protect users. Many would argue this is long overdue and there is still a long way to go to protect young people online – it will be interesting to see if and how this policy develops.TWITTER DATA_
