RealSAM Smart Speaker_accessible technology launch
the brief_
Having previously worked with the RealSAM In Your Pocket phone in 2020, Siren was briefed to launch the RealSAM Smart Speaker within the disability sector.
The RealSAM Smart Speaker is the UK’s first digital hub for blind people which features news, podcasts and the latest bestseller books. The Alexa Skill/ Google Action can be added to smart home speakers to accessibly access a large content library.
RealSAM’s goal was to educate potential customers regarding the breadth of content available on the platform and to ultimately convert to subscription sales.
the approach_
Siren decided to do two separate launches of the RealSAM Smart Speaker, one B2B and one B2C. The first phase was a call out to disability organisations and charities to put their content on the platform and the latter one was for consumers to buy the product. This was beneficial as it garnered more community buy in and content, and resulted in more coverage as well as a great uptake in partners of the speaker.
At the consumer launch, we re-worked the initial release to target wider media and worked it towards the current news agenda. This included pieces on education, children, women, tech, business and health in order to get maximum exposure. At the consumer launch, we re-worked the initial release to target wider media and worked it towards the current news agenda. This included pieces on education, children, women, tech, business and health in order to get maximum exposure. At this time, the platform also had Calibre on it which provides users with over 27,000 books, newspapers, podcasts and radio stations. Subsequently, Siren worked alongside their PR team to gain the furthest reach on this ground-breaking offering and was successful in landing several US-based stories as a result.
In order to boost awareness from within the blind and visually impaired community, Siren worked with influencers to gain maximum traction and to have the product positively endorsed. This resulted in lovely and authentic coverage across social media channels. For example, Chloe Tear, a disability writer said of the product “It’s a great lifeline”.
the result_
Despite a packed news agenda, Siren managed to secure the client 30 pieces of coverage including their first choice of BBC Radio 4 In Touch which is the go-to platform for information for people who are blind or partially sighted.
Furthermore, coverage was secured across all key disability media including a double feature in AMP, Inspire Independent Living and Accessible Technology Today.
The RealSAM Smart Speaker was also featured in Audio Boom, TechRound and This Week in Voice, the latter of which resulted in RealSAM being nominated for an award as a thought-leader within this space. In total, Siren secured a reach of 1,972,403.
